- Service providers acting on our behalf (analytics, email delivery)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Platform
- Process transactions and deliver your purchases
- Authenticate users and protect against fraud
- Send transactional communications (account, purchase, course updates)
- Send marketing communications (with your consent; you may opt out at any time)
- Personalize content and recommendations
- Improve the Platform and develop new features
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.
When you delete your account, we delete your personal information except to the extent we must retain certain records (e.g., transaction history for tax compliance).
6. Your Rights — Texas Residents (TDPSA)
If you are a resident of Texas, the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), effective July 2024, grants you the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to confirm that we are processing your personal data
- Right to access your personal data
- Right to correct inaccurate personal data
- Right to delete your personal data
- Right to obtain a portable copy of your personal data
- Right to opt out of (i) targeted advertising, (ii) the sale of personal data, and (iii) certain profiling decisions
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@closertotheself.com or use the privacy controls in your account. We will respond within 45 days. If we deny a request, you may appeal that decision; an appeal mechanism is available by contacting privacy@closertotheself.com.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not engage in targeted advertising as defined under the TDPSA.
7. Your Rights — California Residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) grants you rights similar to those listed under the TDPSA above — to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing, limit use of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Use the same contact (privacy@closertotheself.com) to exercise California rights.
8. Your Rights — EU/UK/EEA Residents (GDPR)
If you are in the European Union, United Kingdom, or European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. Where we rely on consent as the legal basis for processing, you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior lawful processing.
For data transferred outside the EU/UK/EEA we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.
You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Children Under 13 (COPPA)
The Platform is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact privacy@closertotheself.com so we can delete it.
Users aged 13–17 must have a parent or guardian's consent to use the Platform.
10. Security
We use commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest where feasible, access controls, and audit logging. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If we become aware of a personal-data breach affecting you, we will notify you and any required authorities in accordance with applicable law (e.g., the Texas Identity Theft Enforcement and Protection Act).
11. International Data Transfers
Satjana is based in the United States and processes data primarily in the U.S. If you access the Platform from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Platform you consent to such transfers, subject to applicable safeguards described in Section 8.
12. Marketing Email & CAN-SPAM
Marketing emails are sent only with your consent or where permitted by law. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link; you can opt out at any time. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop transactional emails (account, purchase, account-security messages).
We comply with the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act and analogous laws in other jurisdictions.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. For material changes we will provide additional notice (e.g., email or in-app banner). Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance.
